What is the difference between photo gloss, satin, and matte?

Photo paper finishes.

Updated over 6 months ago

Our high quality photographic paper is available in several finishes, ranging from glossy to satin and matte. These finishes describe the 'gloss', 'sheen' or 'reflection' level of the paper, with glossy being the most shiny and reflective (typical posters are printed on glossy paper), to matte (less shine and minimal reflection) (often used for professional photography and portraits), with satin in the middle.

You can get detailed descritions of each of these media types by clicking MEDIA in our main menu, clicking on the name of any media in the order wizard will take you to that media's product page, and on those pages you'll get descriptions, suggested use, thickness, and even sample photos of each of the papers.

You can learn more about each here: Poster Print Shop Media
